Frequently Asked Questions
A personal organizer is someone who specializes in decluttering, systematizing, and reorganizing spaces in order to create more functional and enjoyable experiences for the people who use them. The work can entail something as detailed as creating a filing system for mail and paperwork, to organizing and packing an entire home for a move.
Organizing and redesigning spaces requires time, energy, and thought that many people can not spare given the busyness of modern life. Whether you're a parent, professional, or family member with an already full plate, we understand the importance of an organized environment and how hard it can be to get there. For a student preparing to move to a new apartment or an expecting parent unsure of how to design a nursery, professional organizing and interior design services can be the helping hand or fresh start needed to provide structure, rejuvenation, and beauty to a space. Everyone has the capability to make the decisions necessary to organize, but a professional organizer can break it into bite sized pieces and create a plan to prevent overwhelm and burnout halfway through!
The most known benefit of reorganization and updated design work is that a space feels new, beautiful, fresh, and reflecting of the person who occupies it. Organization in your environment also boosts productivity and focus, as you're less likely to be interrupted by mess and clutter as you go about your day. An organized space creates opportunities for financial savings and a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle as well. Since your newly organized space effectively contains and displays the things you own, you no longer find yourself buying things you already have or throwing things away that you'd forgotten about.
Once you set up a complementary call, we have the chance to discuss your project with you and to understand your hopes and goals for the work to be done. We'll ask about the scope of tasks you'd like assistance with, narrow in on the right approach and package, and come away with the information needed to give you a proposal.
We are based in the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts, and offer our services across much of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. Depending on the project type, duration of work, and distance to travel, a travel fee may be added to compensate for time and fuel spent reaching your destination.
There is nothing you need to do or purchase in advance of our visit. It is helpful to have an expressed goal for us to help you accomplish, but no steps must be taken by you before we arrive. As we partner with you to organize and redesign your space, we may discuss the purchase of containers to store items, or the design of shelving to display kept objects. This is optional, and we're happy to help research and procure anything you decide you'd like to use in your newly rejuvenated space. Often you'll find you already own the necessary baskets, bins, and shelves needed to complete the project.
In almost all circumstances, we need you to be present and available for the first phase of the project, which entails sorting items and choosing things to part with. For the second phase, during which we remove the items you choose not to keep and come up with new ways to organize and display the chosen items to remain, we ask that you and reachable for any questions or major decisions that arise.
We take great pride in our efforts to dispose of unwanted items in a sustainable, ethical, and responsible manner. Anything that can be recycled will be, and garbage will either be left in your bin or can be taken to the dump if there is a large amount at the end of the project (this is an additional service provided for all manner of large items and bulk waste). Other items will be donated to local organizations. Additionally, we can also oversee the resale of some items online, with a discussed portion of the earnings as compensation.
The timeline for every project is different, and will be discussed with you in the consultation call. Given the scope of work and desired final product, we will include in our proposal our best estimation for the hours required. If during our work we discover factors that we believe will have a considerable impact on the projected timeline, we will discuss next steps with you.
